China Southern: Direct from High-Tech City Wuhan to London
Peter-Vincent Schuld
It is always nice to see how once closed countries open up. More intensive trade, more intensive contacts.
This is certainly true for a country like China. The country’s role on the world stage, both politically and economically, is irreversible.
This also means that there is some travel back and forth for both business and tourism. This week, airline China Southern opened a new direct flight connection between the Chinese city of Wuhan and London Heathrow. It may not mean anything to you at first glance, but the fact is more important than you might think.
The Chinese city of Wuhan, capital of Hubei province, in which this city is centrally located. If you see the map of China you will see a bit above Beijing and if we follow the Chang Jiang River to the right we will arrive in the port city of Shanghai. It is a hub for people who travel by rail or road with good connections to all directions in China and certainly to important cities such as Shanghai and Beijing.
The Wuhan conurbation is now known for the development of high technology in the field of telecommunications and the optical industry. It is not for nothing that airline connections from this city were optimized. China Southern has now started to call at London Heathrow three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The expansion of air connections by China Soutern from Wuhan to London, which is also a member of the Sky Team airline alliance, which also includes KLM, Air France, Delta Airlines and Aeroflot, is not an isolated incident. Since the recent opening of Terminal 3 at this airport, which has been in operation since 1995, China Southern has already expanded its routes with direct flights to Rome, Moscow, San Francisco and Dubai.
